This time the group has decided to make amigurumis. For those unfamiliar with the word, an amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. You can read more on them <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amigurumi"><span style="font-style:italic;">here</span></a>.<br /><br />For my part I made these birds which were commissioned by a friend as part of a baby mobile.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE_1QzHS6bdyuib7x6ZXPj7IFowlhvst51KGeqnDc7w6rXzMOyUwp-4ycaqI4y-y0Q5cI0oft0-9lHTZ3T8EkFcGuOx4TjkjeRoshS7Ww2ibQnwtqaDWpP2cAikwJnV2dw49ipkDN9Fi4/s1600/baby+mobile5.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE_1QzHS6bdyuib7x6ZXPj7IFowlhvst51KGeqnDc7w6rXzMOyUwp-4ycaqI4y-y0Q5cI0oft0-9lHTZ3T8EkFcGuOx4TjkjeRoshS7Ww2ibQnwtqaDWpP2cAikwJnV2dw49ipkDN9Fi4/s320/baby+mobile5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610891771128700146" /></a><br /><br />And this is the entire mobile:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZs_uRSVCWuMyKwyx40XgtfhZ9ZymivDL9KpopppsPGmoawYvraylloDKZlaGkjjdWlsmDJkDE-5megCugm6k2FioE_iUmb9BgSoiXA9hGyTEJeWd0VxZMiC3zlTY2Mr9iBmPU4Ou3QAY/s1600/baby+mobile+1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZs_uRSVCWuMyKwyx40XgtfhZ9ZymivDL9KpopppsPGmoawYvraylloDKZlaGkjjdWlsmDJkDE-5megCugm6k2FioE_iUmb9BgSoiXA9hGyTEJeWd0VxZMiC3zlTY2Mr9iBmPU4Ou3QAY/s320/baby+mobile+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610892117803936290" /></a><br /><br />The letters spell the name of the baby and in my language means "the moon" :) I also made a star and a moon though to a lot of folks the moon was just a silver banana . And for the nth time I have made a resolution to post once every week be it a long one or a short and sweet one liner :)<br /><br />So as soon as I made this resolution I decided to come over and type my story for the week! Its been a very busy crafting week at my place and I am thrilled at the results I am about to share with all.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQHqwlOg0g44n9i5Ge9XlHrzL_yJnlBa5XvMnoJMdgAXTbJ7s9EMJYoLAlSwmPmXb0thYplPLudqfP6T8RrFoKIChTvsF0dulsH4xmrPk2Tg3Ssf8P8Ubw0xM8O2vGg9Q54Mzz2TazzVw/s1600/FBB+felted2.jpg"><img style="float:center; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQHqwlOg0g44n9i5Ge9XlHrzL_yJnlBa5XvMnoJMdgAXTbJ7s9EMJYoLAlSwmPmXb0thYplPLudqfP6T8RrFoKIChTvsF0dulsH4xmrPk2Tg3Ssf8P8Ubw0xM8O2vGg9Q54Mzz2TazzVw/s320/FBB+felted2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608373556156402242" /></a><br />First I joined a Bag CAL(Crochet A-Long for the uninitiated) and finished the Fat Bottom bag that was in my to-do pile for a long long time now! and made it with wool and felted it too! I so loved doing this project and I just had to show it to my sister for it to be taken away:) No amount of its not lined or it doesn't have a button stopped her from taking it. I should know! she is a seamstress and can sew a lining much much better than I can ever dream of ! and the picture above shows what it looked like!<br /><br /><br /><br />Second my daughter decided to have a go at this but she was very sure that she wouldn't follow any pattern and that she would do her own thing! She stuck with it and came out with a winner!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUWtCHaS0U5xs2r3Sw8WC7v5avPboAj_FDbTk7MrsZJ23aWSmGdDC4I2_E_8qVP5ZadaTO-tEMIaPdd0Bi8jla7z2PeD7av1tUDWVRmsiNoNhxafU4AcuaJWhZBkt7RBKJO0f5NC4QY5k/s1600/DSCF1553.JPG"><img style="float:center; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUWtCHaS0U5xs2r3Sw8WC7v5avPboAj_FDbTk7MrsZJ23aWSmGdDC4I2_E_8qVP5ZadaTO-tEMIaPdd0Bi8jla7z2PeD7av1tUDWVRmsiNoNhxafU4AcuaJWhZBkt7RBKJO0f5NC4QY5k/s320/DSCF1553.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608374587503783474" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I then joined a potholder cal hosted on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a> at <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/good-things-together">this group</a><br /><br />Claudia from <a href="http://delights-gems.blogspot.com/">Delights Gems blog</a> sent me a personal invite that I just couldn't resist!<br />Here are the results of that CAL:-<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXebgUvy5XPAOeBAhjlBjYPhJsetwfMjM7m93FQqJveT90L781OJq8CNJA2dx0-IHuFIt1Frvs5fSYTqLM42D4FZWlTTe0niTTg2R2gR84HQORaUspmwGICQ52NrR-SJ2gYbKtxbFMyBw/s1600/fancy+flower+trio.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXebgUvy5XPAOeBAhjlBjYPhJsetwfMjM7m93FQqJveT90L781OJq8CNJA2dx0-IHuFIt1Frvs5fSYTqLM42D4FZWlTTe0niTTg2R2gR84HQORaUspmwGICQ52NrR-SJ2gYbKtxbFMyBw/s320/fancy+flower+trio.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5608377664489022370" /></a><br /><br /><br />So now that I have let you feast on some of the goodies I have created recently I will be back next week to blog about another CAL that my daughter and I are a part of! <br /><br />TaTa For Now:)yarn_ladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11084345183241616728noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932954826157005393.post-12128884443054760512010-09-03T00:58:00.000-07:002010-09-03T01:19:55.018-07:00Not entirely crochet....Just wanted to drop by and post a few completed projects and also to write about this yum recipe my friend put up on her <a href="http://ru-reasonstobecheerful.blogspot.com/2010/08/you-might-like-thischicken-quesadilla.html">blog</a>. I have been crocheting away to my hearts content but instead of having finished pieces I seem to be bitten by the start-new-projects bug!! I have completed a few coasters and potholders and some are on their way across the globe to their new homes. <br /><br />Yesterday I was in a baking mood and made some brownies for my not so little ones and I must say they turned out sinfully good and delicious!!! I followed the recipe from <a href="http://www.cookingandme.com/">The Edible Garden</a> and really enjoyed the simplicity of the process and the clear way she has put it out in her blog!<br /><br />Here are some pics for you to feast on:)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjayPhDZuseqLwXXvkpe9bDvh2MWOgql6rE9vgo31U4_SYdyDdKHfUKk-oNuzicuA15ZZq1OEsTC_2Z4sjOO1_4ngYzN4dOzTBNpZD73XdnW9MOCyYsyI8eHe-TtqzxiY_S_DgMMhDEU48/s1600/brownies.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjayPhDZuseqLwXXvkpe9bDvh2MWOgql6rE9vgo31U4_SYdyDdKHfUKk-oNuzicuA15ZZq1OEsTC_2Z4sjOO1_4ngYzN4dOzTBNpZD73XdnW9MOCyYsyI8eHe-TtqzxiY_S_DgMMhDEU48/s320/brownies.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5510328307209846146" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I have joined the SAARC group on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a> for the Cotton cal/kal that started on Independence day and due to finish on Gandhi Jayanthi. This new year I had promised myself that I would update my blog atleast once a month . So in keeping the promise here is my first post for this year . I have been keeping myself busy by crocheting and picking up knitting. The new year also saw me meet up with my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a> friends which I thoroughly enjoyed. I had made roses for each of my friends and my loved them so much that for his last day in school he requested me to make some for his teachers. I made them with acrylic yarn and F hook . The pattern came from a japanese book though you can use any of the numerous pattern one can find online simply visit <a href="http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/">Crochetpatterncentral</a> and search for roses. It is made as a strip that gets rolled into a rose. You then attach floral wires for stems and add leaves. <div><br /></div><div>My daughter loves to draw and has been learning to draw for the past 3 years. here are some of her latest works.</div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJDVyplXyyuH7i4-wFSyXcXl9J07YwF-wro19Bpc97drzmu6lVJz72ProF5Dcp7zr3UibO2ZEWVkb6zxMIgCxacifnZDKOqT-PAAU-023NVfTyFSALAlnCM4XgpTblllyyXp9WfcNb_M8/s1600-h/varsha_house.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJDVyplXyyuH7i4-wFSyXcXl9J07YwF-wro19Bpc97drzmu6lVJz72ProF5Dcp7zr3UibO2ZEWVkb6zxMIgCxacifnZDKOqT-PAAU-023NVfTyFSALAlnCM4XgpTblllyyXp9WfcNb_M8/s320/varsha_house.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432795988207659778" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9aEOc93fPCrSdnZIBorWJLhxU8tt1bXLiFtOB9PispYxG3xE-Oono3d2vGn8zZAex5pwsRciaS0yDNIZExql6SJeiv-xJ24iRI5r2MDmX-Wp075QkxaD5ck_aYMLMUsRAS8pqhdBVto/s1600-h/varsha_train1.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9aEOc93fPCrSdnZIBorWJLhxU8tt1bXLiFtOB9PispYxG3xE-Oono3d2vGn8zZAex5pwsRciaS0yDNIZExql6SJeiv-xJ24iRI5r2MDmX-Wp075QkxaD5ck_aYMLMUsRAS8pqhdBVto/s320/varsha_train1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432795979605454194" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinZevGaS4Vr6FhtunR3ZS9z8XbRpu7xJ42zVbkt8qvOHJPmDdzSi0nv2G_9BsF6p6_iVn9pcw4ZmpIvZnV2SmWkj0Bi7MZnImkvKFGMC-HNNTpM2N3_BoV6yS0b5IJ14OfK91eiSuRvXI/s1600-h/varsha_rose.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinZevGaS4Vr6FhtunR3ZS9z8XbRpu7xJ42zVbkt8qvOHJPmDdzSi0nv2G_9BsF6p6_iVn9pcw4ZmpIvZnV2SmWkj0Bi7MZnImkvKFGMC-HNNTpM2N3_BoV6yS0b5IJ14OfK91eiSuRvXI/s320/varsha_rose.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432795965154598866" /></a>yarn_ladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11084345183241616728noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932954826157005393.post-40108975669246904042009-05-08T04:23:00.000-07:002009-05-08T06:02:42.167-07:00April flew!!!I didn't realise that April flew by and I didn't blog a sentence!!! Well exams were over and I was getting adjusted to having kids home the full day! I love them ! In the midst of constant cleaning and feeding the brood(thankfully just 2!!) I managed to get a whole lot of crocheting done! I also started a CAL for the lovely <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/donisfuff/croshawl.html">Seraphina shawl</a> on Ravelry and have got 25 rows done! <div><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_iPUQq5t7haqSy8KHReeWjHyODbAy-HqJKDYvnaTxXeO6oJMRHUzXx-h52KKK5aWe8WzKIxOgO1_36_Ukc7b9BUVlBLsVBncjKFLFre2upSRs4WUjvOt663Xb9MDI4-GZB7pXIDb_io/s200/seraphina+shawl+1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333433613195258306" /></div><div>Its becoming tedious so I put it down and have since started on the 2009 crochet squares CAL on Ravelry</div><div> and Craftster. I have caught up to April and also decided to do the Calendar CAL found at the </div><div>Dishcloth Diaries blog. <div> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26700170@N03/?saved=1">My Craftster squares till April can be found flickr...</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><div>Middle of April my crochet student of 3 years returned from her school and asked me ever so </div><div>politely"Aunty may I come for crochet classes?" I was thrilled and said but ofcourse!! so now my afternoons are spent soicialising with 12 yr old girls(my dd also wanted in!) So what do I teach them that would be quick and new to them??? They saw my Waldo Square and immediately wanted that to be their first project except they didn't want a square but would do a garland of linked circles! </div><div><br /></div><div>Second was a wiggly crochet mat which gave them more pleasure telling" wiggly crochet" rather than doing it! they did manage to get their foundation mesh done and both of them had the mesh count wrong and didn't want to rip it out! So I told them to improvise and finish the wiggly using their imagination. My dd just did a plain spiral but my student is yet to finish. The pattern came from <a href="http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/projects/july99_crochet_2.html">here</a>.</div><div>Here are our almost finished wiggly crochet pieces:)</div><div><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 141px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN_1XlJ_YEO1S2pmjZAf4cIL5o40cVtG01atwinfVfgz4SSjY4-9kHik_oK9Xm27vc_KPfabgtxvt3MRMQaodxDce-55Px7ro3viHhwdJyh-fF0B24PIZRgJO4TeGzyGLhNGfvUWIcZ5Y/s200/my+wiggly.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333430082553144162" /></div><div><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 141px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI-kEeHCPswN0aPeDA4CzRtgqgw705mkE-9psz_YagcN5u1zhBHQnF65Ly4FaIKzontINhqCGmWVk5UjxEZpV0-C_zppjqOAE1ALxwz42D7dKcSitBa-uFLhGExnyv3qwymma0x9HiIR4/s200/dd's+wiggly.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333430089186456114" /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>The spiral that my dd did in wiggly crochet led me to teaching them how to do spiral crochet with the help of the dishcloth pattern found <a href="http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1262512/spiral_dishcloth_crochet_till_youre.html?cat=24">here</a>.</div><div>So today we finished the spiral crochet square and much to their delight they said they liked working on it! So while he is being quarantined my daughter suddenly feels all mushy and goes "Oh man I so want to hug him now! I miss him!!!!!" What the??????? So after successfully keeping him away from the family for a week and playing the nurse, I settle down to finish a couple of sampler squares that we are doing as a cal. I also managed to finish the first of the group projects of march... a dishcloth! <div> Enjoy ! <div><br /></div></div></div>yarn_ladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11084345183241616728noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932954826157005393.post-87355416520581651252009-02-21T19:03:00.000-08:002009-02-21T21:29:15.280-08:00Butterflies and Hearts<div style="text-align: center;">Last night I was just browsing at <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a>(love that place!) when my daughter walks in and says"mom I'm bored" to which I say "why don't you crochet something?" without even looking up.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>She learned to crochet from me when she was just 5 and has always been inclined to make her own projects. So when I told her to "go crochet something" she took that challenge and sat in her room for about 45 minutes and came up with this....</div><div><br /></div><div><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1tZeU2AXGVskC8cHJdesB9f2r8F7NUiRJO3kmaIMn_wnzMjk4iWYSHE0nHw6eLLwBd_3jur9Od8v2XQBfRGv_HNR6xfjPLGTmHe1QYnF-M8d0d2sN03SWzRpRCmdGhv_udw-TXARoA0Y/s320/butterfly_var.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305455601253668338" /></div><div>Isn't it beautiful! I mean she came up with this all on her own and she is just eleven and a half!!! </div><div><br /></div><div>She made it by joining 4 motifs ! She hadn't put the tail in which I just folded to look like the antenna and suggested how if she left a longer tail she can crochet in the antennae too.</div><div><br /></div><div>She has offered to share her design to whoever is brave enough to work the motifs and join them. Nearly 16 years ago I picked up a crochet hook to keep myself busy at home and have not looked back since. First it started like 'I want to know if I remember this stuff' and then catapulted into a mighty obsession with YAS/PAS/HAS/TAS and what not! For those of you who are wondering what those 3 letter abbreviations stand for..here is what they mean Yarn Acquisition Syndrome, Pattern Acquisition Syndrome , Hook Acquisition Syndrome and Thread Acquisition Syndrome.</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">I come from a family where crafting is not new. My mom and grand mom knit and my daughter , sister and mother-in-law crochet! I mostly crochet though my full set of knitting needles and also a couple of tatting shuttles are waiting for the day they will be put to the task. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">I also love sports and eagerly lap up the sporting events shown on the telly. I am a great fan of Cricket and Tennis . The 5 day Cricket test matches, I find, are the best way to sit in front of the TV and crochet!!! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Well enough of me rambling on my first post , lets keep hoping I am not too overwhelmed by this blog thingy:)</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Toodles</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Yarn_Lady</span></div>yarn_ladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11084345183241616728noreply@blogger.com0
